From Ranten to the Allgaueck

An intermediate level hike on the forest path with gentle ascents and a beautiful view of the Rantental, the Freiberg and the Krakautal featuring the Preber mountain.
Since ancient times, a connecting road has lead over the ridge between the Murtal and the Rantental, at the foot of the Gstoder. This intermediate level tour runs along this route on the Allgaueck. In the dip on the municipal boundary between St. Ruprecht and Ranten, a chapel dedicated to St. Joseph stands directly on the path, called the "Allgaueck Kreuz". It is not known when this chapel was built. It was restored for the first time in 1972 and again in 2000. A custom known as "Wetterbeten" takes place every June, at which the people of Allgau  pray from the "Ederkreuz" to the "Eckkreuz". "Weather praying" enjoys a long tradition in these parts of Styria and is still practised by locals today. It is supposed to be a plea for good weather for the summer months, to remain protected from storms and to ensure a rich harvest.
