Cosy circular trail above Gasen in the Almenland Nature Park in Styria, which - because there is no contact with grazing animals - can also be walked well with dogs.
"Gassen" was first mentioned in a document in 1406; the first settlers in the valley were the Slavs. In the 13th century, the first church was built, dedicated to St. Oswald and St. Barbara. In the heyday of mining, from the 16th to the 18th century, gold, arsenic, silver and magnetic ironstone were mined in the village. A few scythe forges along the Gasenbach stream were in operation until the end of the 19th century. Today Gasen is a typical mountain farming village with extreme steep slopes.
Gasen lies on the district border of Weiz and borders on the district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag. Gasen consists of the districts of Gasen, Sonnleitberg, Mitterbach and Amassegg and lies between the municipalities of Breitenau and Birkfeld.
In Gasen there is mainly agriculture and forestry, the municipality is considered the steepest mountain farming village in Styria.

On the way on the "sunny side of life" or of Gasen!
This pleasant circular trail with an easy level of difficulty is ideal for a walk in between, for families with children and also for those with four-legged companions - as you do not have direct contact with grazing animals!
- We start directly in the village at the Stoanihaus and walk along the street in the direction of Bruck/Mur.
- Immediately after the department stores', we go right over the bridge and then immediately right again uphill.
- After an easy ascent, the trail leads partly on forest roads and partly through the forest. In between there are always wonderful views of the village centre of Gasen or the Plankogl opposite with its summit cross!
- After a good 2/3 of the way, at the "Gromban Häuserl", we can now make a detour to the right to the "professional wood turner" Peter Pöllabauer. A look into his workshop is worthwhile not only because of the great smell of freshly processed wood.
We ask you to watch your dogs and especially not to leave tracks in the fields that are being mown!
There is a nice and quiet children's playground right in the village and the family-friendly outdoor swimming pool is right next door.
