Around the Eppenstein Ruin

"The historic":Explore historic paths on your hike to the Eppenstein ruins and enjoy the wonderful view between the old walls, which could tell volumes of stories from long-forgotten times.

From the Eppenstein parking lot, the ascent to the ruins is either via the signposted path via Falmoar or directly by the shorter, also signposted path through the forest. The castle ruins of Eppenstein are still in a very attractive condition thanks to the commitment and time spent by the castle association for maintenance. From the ruins there is an incomparable view over the Mur valley.

Via Vordersieding and Mühldorf the route passes the Sattler recreational facility to Weißkirchen.

From the center of Weißkirchen the way back leads to Eberdorf. The whole way you enjoy a great view of the castle ruins until you reach the Eppenstein.

Coming from Klagenfurt: A2 Südautobahn - exit Bad St. Leonhard - follow B78 Obdacher Bundesstraße - at the traffic circle at Weißkirchen - exit Weißkirchen

From direction Gaberl: B77 Gaberl federal road - in the village Weißkirchen

Follow the classic circular hiking trail 324, red/white/red markings, to the Eppenstein ruins. After just a few kilometers, the historic castle awaits you with its stunning views.

From the Eppenstein ruins, follow the signposts in the direction of Weißkirchen. The idyllic village will enchant you with its harmony and culinary delights.

In order to really enjoy a hike in the Murtal and relax, please note the following points:

Plan your stages according to your condition and ability. Take your time. Organize your energy very well, take enough breaks.
There are very long sections. Not everywhere there are possibilities to stop for refreshments. For a long-distance hiker it goes without saying that he should have enough drinks (and snacks) with him.
Adapt your behavior to the respective conditions, both meteorological and ground conditions. Study the weather forecast daily.

Pay attention to yourself and other hikers.

Dress appropriately for a hike:

Wear weather-appropriate, durable clothing. In any case, the clothing should protect you from possible rain and cold or sun and heat.
Even low mountain ranges often hold meteorological surprises. It is not uncommon, even in June, for a cold snap to occur at higher altitudes.
Sandals, bathing slippers, even sneakers are not the appropriate footwear for a hike.
Use hiking boots with ankle protection. Make sure they have a good tread and grip. After rain showers, it can be very slippery in the forest, even in summer, on roots, leaves and stones

This tour is NOT considered "accessible by train and bus" because there is no regular connection.
