Skitour Buchberg von Gams

Easy but very beautiful ski tour on the edge of the Gesäuse
From Gamsforst on forest paths to Goss and from there along the hiking trail over beautiful alpine pastures to the Buchberg!

Very worthwhile and rather easy with an overwhelming view of the Gesäuse.

More information

From Vienna: A1 Westautobahn exit Ybbs via Wieselburg, Scheibbs and Lunz/See to Göstling an der Ybbs and continue in the direction of Palfau.

In Palfau turn left in the direction of Gams. From Gams, drive east along Gamsforstrasse until you reach the last farm, where you can also park.

From Linz: A1 to Voralpenkreuz junction, A9 to Windischgarsten, Unterlaussa, Altenmarkt, Grossreifling, Landl.Gams

From Graz: A9 Pyhrnautobahn, exit, Traboch (near Leoben) via Präbichl/Eisenerz, Hieflau, Landl, Gams

From Gams, drive east along the Gamsforstrasse to the last farm, if the forest road is cleared, continue on foot along the forest road and then after about 1/2 hour turn left into the forest, following the trail markings on the trees. Continue along the track, crossing the forest road in the direction of the mountain pasture and in the same direction east to the Goss. Up to there approx. 1 1/2 hrs.

After a break, continue south up to the ridge and from there head southwest towards the Großer Buchberg. Before the last uphill section, there is another downhill section, where you have to gain a lot of momentum on the way back or you will have to skin up again!

After about 2 1/2 hours we reach the summit, behind us a wonderful tour along the ridge with a fantastic panoramic view of the Gesäuse mountains. The way back is the same.

If it is too long for you, you can only walk up to the Goss, which is also very worthwhile!

With a wonderful view of Wildalpen and its mountains all the way to Hochschwab.
