We hike along trail no. 651 from Schloss Röthelstein via Hubereck and Spießkogel to the Dürrenschöberl – a stunning panoramic peak overlooking the Enns Valley and surrounding mountain ranges.
The Dürrenschöberl is a true insider tip for those who enjoy long hikes and breathtaking views. From the parking area at Schloss Röthelstein, we follow well-marked trail no. 651 along forest roads to Hubereck. From there, the route becomes more alpine: we ascend via a forest path to Spießkogel and continue along the ridge through high moorland to the summit of Dürrenschöberl (1,778 m). The panoramic view stretches across the Gesäuse, Haller Mauern, and Rottenmanner Tauern. A summit panorama disk helps identify the surrounding peaks. The descent follows either the same route or trail no. 652 to Frauenberg/Ardning. This alternative is steeper at first but offers scenic variety. To avoid a long walk back along the road, it’s worth parking a second car in Frauenberg.
