Through the Bärenschützklamm from the Teichalm

The Bärenschützklamm will open on September 22, 2024.
The Bärenschützklamm is one of the most beautiful water-bearing rock gorges in Austria. A hike between untamed waterfalls and jagged rocks is a lasting experience: 109 bridges and 51 wooden ladders lead over a height of 350 m with a climb length of 1.4 kilometres.

The Bärenschützklamm is open from 1 May to 31 October, daily from 7:30 am to 4 pm, registration is not required!

Walking with dogs is not possible! Small children may come along, but the path can be strenuous and sometimes dangerous for children, the responsibility lies with the parents or accompanying persons!

At the entrance to the gorge (Hans Kerl hut), a trail maintenance fee (price as of May 2020) must be paid; trail maintenance is carried out by the ÖAV-Sektion Mixnitz:

Adults:                                                                            € 5,00

Adults with Alp Association ID:                                 € 4,00

Children (6 - 16 Years):                                               € 3,50

More information

  • We start directly at the Teichalmsee and take trail no. 745 along the Mixnitzbach stream.
  • We follow this trail until we reach the GH "Guter Hirte", where we change to the "Prügelweg" with trail no. 746.
  • We walk down the rather steep trail for a good hour and take care not to miss the turn-off to the left (trail no. 22) to the Bärenschützklamm trail (trail no. 745).
  • The entrance to the Bärenschützklamm is at the Hans Kerl hut, where the trail maintenance fee is collected.
  • We go up to the right, now the most beautiful part of the trail begins with the climb through the gorge. Over bridges and ladders and finally over a hiking trail, we walk for a good hour up to the inn "Zum Guten Hirten".
  • From there we take the same path back to the Teichalmsee.
A diversion to the popular pilgrimage church "Schüsserlbrunn" is highly recommended and takes an additional 45 minutes. Masses are also held in summer. Click here for the mass schedule
