Bäcksteffl - Farmer's Delicacies & Beetle Bean Cabinet

Michaela Summer has set herself the goal of being "more than just a museum" with her lovingly furnished beetle bean cabinet. With the help of film and photo material, the seasonal development of the beetle bean from cultivation to refinement to culinary processing is presented. Sweet temptation included.

Bean Bastian Worlds

Come to the farm of the first beetle bean queen Michaela I. and immerse yourself in the bean-bastic world of the Styrian beetle bean! Because it fascinates with its appearance, convinces with its inner values and is also historically worth a culinary journey.

Have you ever looked closely at a beetle bean? How fascinating the pattern of purple and dark black draws the eye? Like a lunar landscape. Only that it is in the middle of the thermal and volcanic land of Styria and thousands of times in practical bean form.

The beetle bean and the corn simply belong together. The red flowering beetle bean plant, which is not harvested until November, meanders sweetly around the sturdy corn soldier. Yet it is not originally Styrian at all. Although it now feels as if the Styrians have always enjoyed their beetle beans with kernel oil, the bean only came over from the New World in the 16th century. And immediately it felt at home in the Mediterranean-influenced, Illyrian climate.

Beetle bean rich

The beetle bean is so important to the Styrians that they have even appointed their own queen for it. Michaela Summer is her civil name. In aristocratic circles she is known as Michaela I.

She runs the "Bäcksteffl" business, which is also home to the Beetle Bean Cabinet. There you can immerse yourself in the world of the Styrian beetle bean and learn all kinds of interesting facts about the funny purple protein bombs. For example, that the beans can only be enjoyed after a 12-hour cold water bath and subsequent cooking. Beetle bean products, as well as Styrian pumpkin seed oil g.g.A. and much more are available for browsing at Bäcksteffl in Halbenrain. Then it is called only more "Bohn' appetite!".
