Three Markets Tour
This charming tour through fruit orchards and Schilcher wine-growing areas introduces you to three beautiful market towns in the southern part of the Lipizzanerheimat. The route passes by several castles and, with plenty of inviting places to stop along the way, it’s truly a tour for the senses.
Like all cycling routes in the Lipizzanerheimat, the Three Markets Tour is fully signposted. The ideal starting point is the train station in Krottendorf near Ligist, which is well connected via the S7 – bicycles can be taken on board free of charge! The tour is also easily accessible via the regional cycling routes R14 Kainachtal and the nearby R56 Lieboch Valley route. A clockwise direction is recommended.
The climb up to Muggauberg is the highest point of the tour, followed by a descent into the first of the three market towns – Stallhofen. After visiting the parish church and taking your first break, the ride continues through a diverse landscape.
Along the way, you’ll pass castles and manor houses, vineyards and orchards, as well as many popular rustic wine taverns (*Buschenschänken*) and traditional inns. In Mooskirchen, cafés and a fine distillery offer the perfect setting for a relaxed stop before the route leads you over gentle hills back to the historic town of Ligist, at the start of the Schilcher Wine Road.
After a well-deserved cold platter (*Brettljause*) and wine tasting, the final stretch is a leisurely downhill ride. From Krottendorf, you can conveniently return home or continue your journey via the S-Bahn.
