The great Jogl - Stage 3: Fischbach - Wenigzell

Closed
The third stage of the touring mountain bike route "Der große Jogl" leads from Fischbach via Birkfeld and Strallegg to Wenigzell. At around 38 kilometers, this is the shortest stage.
The stage from Fischbach to Wenigzell takes around four hours. From Fischbach, the tour takes us to the market town of Birkfeld, with numerous shopping and refreshment opportunities. The home of the "Edlseer" is also known for the delicious Felber chocolates from its own factory, the sound tunnel and the Feistritztalbahn. You reach Strallegg along a section of the R8 Feistritztal cycle path, which was built on a former railroad line. Strallegg has already won several awards in the Styrian flower decoration competition. The next municipality on the tour is also the stage destination, namely Wenigzell. The professional athletes of the Tour of Austria also celebrated their finish here in 2018.

A special service along the tour "Der große Jogl" is the luggage transport - simply cycle carefree, without any annoying extra luggage. While you are on the road, your luggage will be taken to your next stage destination (by 5 p.m. at the latest).

Route planner for your journey

The following stage layout is just one of many possible variations.

We start our 3rd stage of the touring mountain bike route "Der große Jogl" in Fischbach. We ride past the church for approx. one kilometer on the main road before turning right onto the so-called Elmleiten trail. At the second junction, we keep right again. We follow the signs and arrive in Birkfeld via Piregg. Once in the market center, we pass Cafe Felber and the Klangtunnel exhibition and keep left towards the main square. But we turn right before the church and keep left at the next junction with the main road. We only stay on the road for a short while before turning left opposite the former railroad station onto the Feistritztalradweg R8. The Feistritztalradweg runs along a former railroad line, often in shady woodland. We now follow the R8 for around four kilometers. We then turn right, first crossing the Feistritz, and after a short stretch on the main road, we turn right again. We pass a farmstead and enter a wooded area. We follow this route until we reach the Strallegg fire station. Here we continue straight on into the center of Strallegg.

We leave the village center and continue on the main road to the crossroads that also leads to the Almblick ski lifts. Here we turn left. At the Posch snack station, we keep right and enter a wooded area. At the end of this wooded area, we turn left and follow the road until we reach the Wetterkreuzen. Here we keep left again and after about 800 meters we turn right. We continue slightly downhill and pass various crossroads. We also almost pass the Bratlalm, so that hungry cyclists can take a short break to enjoy the fantastic view and a hearty snack. We follow the road towards the center of Wenigzell.

Wenigzell has many inns and cafés waiting for visitors. With Mein Hotel Fast, Wenigzell also has a certified bed & bike establishment and many other accommodation and refreshment options.

The R8 Feistritztal cycle path, which is particularly popular with families, also runs through Birkfeld. The starting point is St. Kathrein am Hauenstein or Ratten.
