Awarded by Falstaff (2025): 2 forks / 85 points
In the heart of Graz's city center, in one of the oldest burgher houses of the city, stands the Gasthaus Stainzerbauer, a culinary institution with roots in the 19th century. Once a meeting place for the wealthy citizens of the monarchy, the house today is a destination for people who appreciate refined yet down-to-earth cuisine. In the spirit of Graz, the Capital of Culinary Delights, great emphasis is placed on culinary quality and close collaboration with long-term partners from the surrounding area. Specialties such as Grazer Krauthäuptel, Weizer lamb or trout from East Styria have their fixed place, as do seasonal dishes from the region.
Under the leadership of head chef Werner Wiener, the kitchen interprets traditional recipes in a contemporary and modern way. In addition to classics, there are also dishes that are hard to find elsewhere – from Flecksuppe to Beuschel to Rindsbackerln. Complementing this, the wine list is one of the most extensive in the city, featuring carefully selected local and international wines.
