Next Liberty
GrazWhere theater stays young.
The Next Liberty is the children's and youth theater of the city of Graz and has been an integral part of the cultural scene since 1995. The building is located in the former Thalia cinema right next to the opera house and is named after the small Statue of Liberty in front of the building. It symbolically represents openness, courage, and creativity – values that continue to shape the theater today.
The ensemble consists of actors and musicians who jointly develop productions that captivate children, teenagers, and adults alike. The program features modern stories, classics in a new guise, and original pieces that address themes such as friendship, family, identity, or the environment. The theater succeeds in combining ambitious content with humor and imagination.
In addition to performances, Next Liberty offers many opportunities for participation. Through workshops, theater tours, or rehearsal visits, young visitors gain insights behind the scenes. The format “NEXTRA” playfully conveys theater knowledge and creates space for personal ideas.
Today, Next Liberty is one of the most significant children's and youth theaters in Austria. With around 200 performances per year, it reaches more than 60,000 people. The house stands for vibrant culture in the Graz Region: open, creative, and with a sense of what interests the young generation.
