Graz

Experience archaeology – treasures of the past in Graz.

The Archaeological Museum in Eggenberg Castle presents one of the most significant archaeological collections in Austria. In a modern, underground exhibition hall, over 1,200 objects from various epochs are displayed.

Highlights include the world-famous Strettweg cult wagon, an important find from the Hallstatt period, as well as the Kleinklein mask and the silver cup from Grünau, which are among the most valuable discoveries from the Roman period in Styria. In the adjacent lapidarium, one of the largest collections of Roman inscriptions in the Eastern Alps can be found, including the impressive burial site of L. Cantius.

Currently, visitors can explore baroque Graz digitally in the special exhibition “Graz 1699” and connect it with archaeological findings from the city center. The museum offers an exciting insight into past living worlds and is a must for history enthusiasts. A visit during the Steiermark Schau 2025, where Eggenberg Castle is the focus of baroque history, is particularly worthwhile.
