Imaginative fairy tale journey deep in the castle hill.

The Grazer Märchenbahn (Fairy Tale Train) leads deep into the Schlossberg and invites visitors to explore a fantastical underground world over a distance of about two kilometers. The narrow-gauge train starts at Schlossbergplatz and travels through a vast tunnel system with 22 lovingly designed stations, of which ten are interactive. Light, sound, and mysterious fairy tale motifs create an inspiring atmosphere that captivates both children and adults.

Originally, the train was created in an old protective tunnel. Starting in 1968, the facility was used as a cavern railway and was reopened as the Märchenbahn in 2014. Today, scenes such as the Witch's Realm, the Ice World, or the Thicket of Thorns await visitors, who can become explorers with their flashlights. The figures are deliberately kept vague, allowing the rest to be imagined by the visitors.

Inside, pleasant temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees prevail year-round. It's an ideal spot for an outing on hot days in the Graz Region. The train operates daily from 9:30 AM during the summer (July and August), otherwise from 10:30 AM.
