The temperatures continue to climb and summer is in full swing. These are the days when it's best to find a quiet spot by the water. But the search has come to an end, because Lake Piberstein in Maria Lankowitz is the perfect place.
Lake Piberstein was closed for more than four years. Thanks to the takeover by the municipality of Köflach with financial support from the state, the area has been open to the public again since June 2024. Swimming is free of charge, but at your own risk, as there are no lifeguards on site for the time being. A fee is charged for parking vehicles in the car park.
The dreamlike bathing lake in the west of the Graz Region covers an area of sixteen hectares and is surrounded by a breathtaking mountain panorama and the green pastures of the Lipizzaner horses. Ideal for swimmers, sun worshippers and nature lovers, it offers extensive sunbathing lawns and clear water. Whether for relaxing or for water sports activities, this lake is a perfect destination for the whole family. With a water surface area of around 16 hectares, it is also one of the largest natural pools in Styria. The area for sport and recreation is a relic from the mining industry; where the bathing lake is located today, coal was once extracted in open-cast mining.
Bathing with dogs is not permitted here. Parking costs €5 by car or €3 by moped or motorbike. Come along and enjoy a fantastic day at the lake!
