Diocese Museum

Graz

Historical treasures of the Diocese of Graz-Seckau.

The Diözesanmuseum Museum (Diocesan Museum) Graz in the former seminary showcases significant sacred art from the Diocese of Graz-Seckau. In addition to the permanent exhibition on saints, practices of faith, and celebration traditions, regularly changing special exhibitions are presented.

The museum was founded in 1932 and has been housed in the protected historical seminary since 2009, a former Jesuit college from the 16th century. This historic building not only houses the museum but also the church's monument conservation office of Styria. The architecture of the house, including the baroque staircase with mysterious images and signs, contributes to the unique atmosphere.

The Diözesanmuseum Graz is known for its changing exhibitions on themes such as goldsmithing, Christmas cribs, and Christian symbols. Additionally, art walks and workshops are regularly offered, providing a deeper insight into the sacred art and cultural history of the region.

Definitely a worthwhile place for anyone who wants to experience cultural depth and spiritual history in the heart of Graz.
