Where today Der Steirer welcomes guests, Hans Weitzer ran a lively wine tavern around 1910. He already knew what matters: socializing, conversations, shared meals and drinks – a symbol of Styrian joy of life that still resonates today. Der Steirer continues this tradition and combines a modern atmosphere with regional roots. Classics like crispy fried chicken, boiled beef, or goulash are just as much on the menu as Styrian tapas, which provide small, versatile insights into the regional cuisine.

The dining options are complemented by a remarkable wine cellar that presents a selection of open wines from Styrian top and young winemakers. Twelve changing varieties offered monthly allow guests to draw culinary inspiration and discover unusual wines.

Tip: Where the sales room used to be, there is now ''Senf & Söhne'', a new snack area in a standing buffet style, where hearty classics like beef tongue, cotechino, goulash, or Krainer are served with bread and wine from Thursday to Saturday. Inspired by Italian snack bars like those in Trieste, the new concept brings Styrian sociability and hearty cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere directly into the heart of the newly designed Der Steirer.
