Hochalm - Maria Schnee via Fressenberg

A leisurely hike in the Seckauer Tauern to the pilgrimage church Maria Schnee.
Autumn time is hiking time - everyone who likes hiking looks forward to the autumn tours, as they have a special feel-good character. There are many reasons to pack your backpack and go out; the fantastic weather, the colorful forests, the clear view, the fresh temperatures in the morning and the warming sun around noon. With today's hiking tip we present a well-known and popular destination in the Seckauer Tauern: the Hochalm with the pilgrimage church Maria Schnee and the nearby memorial cross. Already in 1810 Archduke Johann wrote in his diary about the Hochalm: "The view is unique and a true panorama". This statement has not changed to this day and so many nature enthusiasts hike to the broad mountain ridge on the eastern edge of the Seckauer Tauern to enjoy the view at the mountain church Maria Schnee at 1822 meters.

From St. Michael in Upper Styria via the Murtal expressway S36 (vignette required) to the exit "St.Lorenzen" and continue through Feistritz and Prankh to Wasserleith. After Wasserleith turn right towards Hochalm. Approx. 30km and 30 min.

From Judenburg on the Murtal expressway S36 (vignette required) to the exit "St.Lorenzen" and continue through Feistritz and Prankh to Wasserleith. After Wasserleith turn right towards Hochalm. Approx. 40km and 40 min.

We start at the parking lot (1146 m) shortly after the Dietmayer farm in Fressenberg and orient ourselves by the signpost "Ramplerhütte and Hochalm". A wide trail - clearly marked red-white-red - leads slightly uphill through the forest. We continue hiking along a forest road, with a slight downhill in between. After passing a gate, we shortly reach the Ramplerhütte (1466 m). We stay on the forest road and after the right turn we turn left into the forest. From now on, the trail becomes somewhat steeper and leads uphill via serpentines. Above the forest border we follow the path slightly to the left and hike over the memorial cross to the pilgrimage church (1822 m). The way back is via the ascent route.
What distinguishes a good hiking backpack? The size and the capacity depends on the desired area of use. The larger the backpack, the more important is the carrying system, with the ability to adjust to your own back length. A good hiking backpack is made of lightweight, durable and water-repellent materials, and a rain cover should always be included. The variety of brands and sizes is enormous, so professional advice is all the more important.
There is no public transport connection to the starting point of the tour.
