Krampus Run St. Radegund: Dark Figures and Blazing Traditions

When darkness falls over St. Radegund near Graz, a spectacle deeply rooted in Styrian winter traditions comes to life: the Krampus Run. Every Advent season, the village center transforms into a stage for shaggy figures, blazing torches, and the clanging of heavy bells. In 2025, the event once again draws crowds to this spa town at the foot of the Schöckl mountain.

Local groups such as the “St. Radegunder Schöckl Pass” host the event, joined by other Krampus and Perchten troupes from the region. They parade through the village with elaborately carved masks, intricate costumes, and powerful choreographies—wild and loud, but always respectful of the centuries-old custom.

Thanks to its location in Styria and proximity to the city of Graz, St. Radegund provides the perfect setting for this mystical winter ritual. The Krampus Run isn’t just a parade—it’s a living tradition that brings generations together and captivates both visitors and locals.

By the way: the event is also suitable for children. The performances are family-friendly—and best of all, St. Nicholas will be there too, bringing surprises for the little ones.

Please note: During the Krampus Run, the main road through town (L319) will be closed from 5:00 PM to approximately 9:30 PM between the Kalvarienbergstraße junction and Geduld. A detour is in place via Kalvarienbergstraße, PVA, and the valley station.
