“Waltz Steps and Polka Hits – Johann Strauss for Kids” transforms the Chamber Music Hall of the Graz Music Association into a joyful sound space full of music, movement, and stories. Storyteller Marko Simsa and the Erke Duit Quintet take the young audience on a journey through the world of waltzes and polkas by Johann Strauss. Familiar melodies such as the “Tritsch-Tratsch Polka,” the “Blue Danube,” and the “Letter Polka” are presented in a way that encourages children not only to listen but to participate actively: singing, clapping, imitating cuckoo calls, and dancing to the music. In between, Marko Simsa shares exciting anecdotes from the life of the waltz king and explains how the music is structured. The musicians of the quintet present their instruments with humor and joy for performance. The afternoon is ideal for families and school classes who want to experience classical music in an informal atmosphere. Meanwhile, music history comes alive, showcasing the joy of life found in Johann Strauss's compositions. Thus, the Graz Music Association becomes a meeting point for young and old music lovers in the Graz Experience Region – right in the heart of Styria.
