Die Habsburger in Graz

Graz

A guided walk through Graz with anecdotes about intrigue, parties & daily life of the Habsburgs

On October 9, 2025, the walking tour “The Habsburgs in Graz – Sex, Drugs and Dreivierteltakt” begins at the Burghof Graz. For at least 1.5 hours, participants explore the old town through stories rarely found in history books.

The focus is on courtly life during the Habsburg era: intrigue, lavish parties, romances, and scandals. Graz, under rulers like Frederick III and Ferdinand II, was not only a residence but a key strategic center. Many traces from that period—city walls, palaces, churches—remain visible today.

This tour combines vivid anecdotes with historical facts. It reveals overlooked corners, courtly routines, and the human side of a dynasty that shaped Graz’s identity. Power struggles and love affairs take center stage, but so do daily routines and cultural legacies.

The format is also special: offered as a Free Tour, there’s no set price—participants may donate voluntarily at the end.

Part of the cultural program of the Graz Region, this unique city tour highlights the lighter, more human side of history in Styria’s capital. Ideal for anyone who prefers a witty take on the past—right in the heart of Styria.
