Mühlenpanoramaweg, Gasen
Open
The one-hour circular route leads from the town center to the Schreinhofermühle and is ideal as a “digestive walk” after a stop.
The Mill Panorama Trail in Gasen is a leisurely circular route lasting about 1 hour. The start and finish is the center of Gasen, where you can stop off at three traditional inns before or after the hike! Families also enjoy the outdoor pool and the great playground right next to the Stoanihaus.
The small, friendly mountain village of Gasen is part of the Almenland Nature Park and has 900 residents. The place became best known as the home of the “Stoakogler brothers” Willingshofer, who still manage their farms here today. The "Stoanihaus der Musik" in the town center houses the large exhibition about the great career of the "Stoakogler", and the "Music School for Adults", which is also located there, now has students from all over Europe. The small cafe in the house is a popular meeting place for music students as well as visitors and the souvenir shop rounds off the offering.
The extreme slopes around the village make Gasen the "steepest place in Styria".

More information
- We start directly in the center of Gasen and walk towards the parish church
- You can also take the shortcut through what is probably the steepest cemetery and look at the beautiful, forged grave crosses.
- Behind the church you go up a narrow, slightly steep short stretch to the “Zepfenwurfstation” – from here you also have a great view of the village of Gasen!
- We then go a little way across the meadow through the forest, it feels like a soft carpet of tree needles!
- When we come out of the forest, we have a fantastic view of the “Streberkogel”, Gasen's local mountain, in front of us.
- Past the mill owner's farm, we now only walk about 500 m along the asphalt road to the cozy little square of the Schreinhofer mill!
- After a short rest (sometimes they also serve and prepare Brennsterz), we head back to Gasen along the municipal road in about 20 minutes!
- After a few minutes we come to the Augrabensiedlung - two of our organic herb farmers are at home here! At Pöllabauer Elisabeth you can visit the beautifully landscaped mountain herb garden, taste a few things and of course take them home with you!
- When you have almost reached your destination, you can see a unique memorial “The Gasner Plague Column” at the Willingshofer company – it doesn’t fall over straight away! – but was intentionally built that way!
