Hochweg-Runde, Passail

Via the Passail fish ponds in the Almenland Nature Park, the route leads out to Haufenreith. The way back then leads along the high trail with beautiful views of the Passailer Kessel.

Past the fish ponds, which are idyllically situated in the village, you walk up to the village of Haufenreith and then down to the Rechberg main road. At Auen, the trail then climbs up to the Hochweg, from where you have wonderful views of the Sattelberge mountains to the south of the basin. Always running above the village, you reach the village center again at Hintergasse.  Another loop around the cemetery and then you have reached your destination.

Apart from a short section between the fish ponds and Haufenreith, the route is on asphalt, several times along the main road/B64, but always on a footpath.

This tour, perhaps shortened by the last section, is also a lovely walk.

Many thanks to Ali Möstl for providing the track!

  • We start in an easterly direction and walk out of town along the B64 main road.
  • We soon turn right onto Fischteichweg, which we do not leave until the crossroads in Auen.
  • At the crossroads, we continue straight on along Höllweg and Erdbauernweg up to the center of Haufenreith.
  • There we turn left down into the Haufenreithweg and walk down to the junction with the main road/ Harrer caravan.
  • We cross the road and walk left up the sidewalk back to Passail.
  • At the crossroads in Auen (GH Schober/Hohenau) we turn right into Gaasengrabenweg and then immediately (before the Sunhill Ranch) turn left uphill into Gaasweg.
  • At the next fork in the path, we keep left and then immediately right and are thus on the Hochweg.
  • We walk back along the Hochweg to the village center and meet the main road again at "Blumen Kalcher".
  • We turn right onto the Bundesstraße/B64 and walk across the market square to the crossroads in front of the SPAR supermarket.
  • Here we turn left into Arzberger Straße and walk around the Kamillusheim to the crossroads in front of the cemetery.
  • Turn right and continue along Wiedenbergstraße and then immediately left along Angerstraße to GH Hulfeld.
  • Before GH Hulfeld, we turn left up Untergasse and then cross the Raab right next to the outdoor pool.
  • Passing the Raabursprunghalle, we are then right back at the starting point at the middle school.

The GH "Der Schrenk" on the Passail market square is a great place to stop for a bite to eat with good food, friendly staff and beautiful guest gardens.
