From the main square, we start directly at the Kornmesserhaus towards Brucker Schlossberg. We walk right past the town hall, through the narrow Probsteigasse, and reach the old city wall near the Cultural Center. From here, we hike right over the Hohen Markt and Etzersteig, then continue steeply upwards, directly to the scenic Schlossberg Plateau (with the old walls of the former Landskron Castle, as well as a café and the summit meadow).
We return towards the town center, but this time via the Schlossbergsteig and Schillerstraße (passing the City Museum) to Kreckerstraße. We follow this for about 150 meters and then turn right towards Madereck (indicated by a yellow sign).
We follow the Madereckweg, initially on a wide path, which then becomes narrower. Passing south of the 772m high Dürnberg, we soon reach the Breitenthaler homestead (with a beautiful wayside cross).
We ascend once more, and finally, we arrive at the Almgasthaus Puster (perhaps we can already smell the roast pork).
About 10 minutes on foot from the inn is the large summit cross on Madereck, which stands at 1,050m.
On our return, we follow the southern path downhill through Urgental, enjoying beautiful views into the Murtal until we reach E-Werkstraße. From there, we are already on the Murinsel and walk along the Mur River towards the east, passing the football stadium (restaurant "Phans"), and return to the town center. We reach it at the historic Baderhaus (restaurant "Weinerei"), Riegler Restaurant, and Hotel Landskron, where we can take a well-deserved rest at Austria’s second-largest town square (with many cafés).
If time allows, a visit to the Minoritenkirche is recommended, which can be reached in just a few minutes from the main square via Mittergasse (pedestrian zone).
