This varied Nordic walking tour offers an exciting alternative to the classic lake circuit. It connects Lake Altaussee, shady forest passages, magnificent viewpoints, and charming promenade sections to Obertressen and Bad Aussee—and back again.
The tour starts at the Kurhaus car park in Altaussee, past the Volkshaus and through the spa gardens. The trail runs along the meadow path to the Seeklause at km 0.8. It continues along the idyllic lake promenade until, at km 1.1, it turns right onto an ascent via forest and asphalt paths. The highest point is reached at km 1.9.
The route now continues to the right along an asphalt road before turning left towards Bad Aussee at km 2.3. From km 2.8, the route leads through a forest entrance to the Hofmannsthal lime tree – a scenic spot with potential for relaxation. Then follow the hiking trail further uphill to km 3.7.
Passing the fire station, the trail leads to Emil-Mariott-Weg. At km 4.2, turn right onto Ramgutstraße, then continue along Sigmund-Freud-Straße and turn left onto Emil-Ertl-Weg at km 4.8. This leads to a meadow section and finally downhill through the forest to Altausseerstraße. Cross this at km 5.7 to reach Klaus-Maria-Brandauer-Promenade on the right after the bridge (Hausersteg).
This section along the Traun river (km 6.4 to 6.7) offers particularly joint-friendly exercise and physical activity in nature. Back in Altaussee, cross the Landesstraße at km 8.3 to return to Altausseer See.
