Preber

Krakau

Alpine and yet green: The Preber in the climatic health resort area of Styrian Krakau is one of the most popular ski touring mountains in the Schladminger Tauern, but is also popular in summer. The summit with a height of 2,740 meters is located directly on the border between Styria and Salzburg. At the foot of the mountain is the Prebersee, which is mainly known for the Preber shooting. From here, in addition to summer and winter tours, the annual Preberlauf, a ski touring competition, starts.

The wild and romantic mountain, which rises above the hiking and mountaineering villages of Krakow and Salzburg's Lungau. The summit of the Preber is a great hiking destination during the summer months with the villages of Krakau Ebene, Krakaudorf and Krakauschatten as a "base camp". The promising Preber tour is particularly noteworthy. Sports enthusiasts on wheels will also get their money's worth with the “Krakau-Lungau Runde” guided mountain bike tour. At the foot of the Preber, traditional events such as the water target shooting at Schattensee or the annual Samson parade in Krakaudorf take place.

In winter, the Preber is one of the most popular and most heavily used ski touring mountains in the Eastern Alps. Since there are no higher mountains in the Alps east of the Preber, an impressive mountain panorama is guaranteed at the summit. In the valley, the landscape of the Styrian Krakow captivates with its fairytale winter hiking trails, impressive cross-country ski trails and great refreshment stops. Alternative tour - descent via Mühlbachtörl - Preberkessel - Preberalm - Speikboden - Grazerhütte demanding The Preber can be reached via several climbs. On the one hand, you can get to the summit (1,200 meters above sea level) from the Prebersee via the Preberalm and the Roßscharte in about 3 hours. The ascent from the Grazer Hütte via the Trogleiteneck and the Bockleiteneck (2,460 m) is particularly beautiful. The tour leads over the back from the hut in approx. 2.5 hours (850 m altitude difference) to the summit. From there over the ridge to the Mühlbachtörl (2,478 m). The descent takes place in the Preberkessel before you get back to the Grazerhütte via the Preberalm and Speikboden. You have to reckon with a good 8 hours for the entire tour.
