Parish church Saint Joseph in Turrach

Stadl-Predlitz-Turrach

The Turrach parish church of St. Joseph was donated in 1726 by Prince Adam von Schwarzenberg for his squires.

At the outer corners of the column postaments of its high altar, erected around 1730, two youthful squires kneel on consoles in ceremonial costume, consisting of black knee breeches and a black, gold-fringed smock with a simple undercollar, tied-on black mountain leather, white stockings and black half shoes with a gilded buckle. The high shaft hats with the Schwarzenberg coat of arms have been removed and lie like teeth at the feet of the two squires, each of whom is offering a hollow of natural Turrach brown ironstone in his left hand, as it were, as a sacrifice. The figures are about 30-40 years younger than the high altar; the specific occasion of their creation is unknown.
