More than 12.000 years ago, two glacier tongues met here, which gave the Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park its lovely and wide shape. You can expect a scenic beauty that will make your heartbeat faster: gently rolling meadows, ponds, streams and moors, forests and alpine pastures and the two mountain personalities Zirbitzkogel (2,396 m) and Grebenzen (1,892 m).
The power and influence of the Mur glacier formed gently shaped hills, small valleys, high plateaus and numerous wet and water areas that still form the landscape of the Neumarkt pass landscape today. Surrounded by the mountain personalities Zirbitzkogel and Grebenzen, crossed by meadows, forests, small-scale farms and villages, this colorful landscape also attracts a variety of life - plants and animals that you don't see often in other places - biodiversity that the Zirbitzkogel Nature Park Association- Grebenzen protects and supports!
What is a nature park? Nature parks are "model landscapes" with particularly ecological value. The Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park was awarded the "Nature Park" rating back in 1982, making it one of the oldest nature parks in Styria. The Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park owes its special landscape shape to the last ice ages, which left behind wide plateaus, lovely landscapes, many ponds, streams and springs. The agricultural cultivation of the cultural landscape in the responsible coexistence of man and nature ultimately shape today's diverse and colorful landscape of the region.
The 3 nature park communities include St. Lambrecht, Neumarkt in der Steiermark and Mühlen.
The Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park with all its natural and cultural jewels is freely accessible to everyone, all year round.
