Filialkirche Althofen

St. Peter Kbg.

The church in Althofen, consecrated to St. Bartholomew, rises in the middle of a walled churchyard. A church may have existed here as early as 1000, which may have been the first parish church in Katschtal.

The church is a Romanesque hall church building over a warped rectangular floor plan. In the 14th century, the nave windows were enlarged in the Gothic style, new round windows were added and the building was enlarged with a retracted choir with ribbed vaults. Around 1666 the flat wooden ceiling of the nave was replaced by a barrel vault.

Worth seeing are the free-standing, early Baroque high altar, the altarpiece showing the martyrdom of St. Bartholomew, the coat of arms of the patron saint of Althofen, the two side altars, the early Baroque pulpit and the late Gothic figures.
