Raab Origin Roundtrip
Open
Circular trail in the Almenland Nature Park in Styria - from the "Waldmühle" at the head of the valley up to the source of the Raab River.
North of Passail, at the foot of the Osser and in the middle of the Almenland Nature Park, the Raab rises. This mythical river flows 250 km through eastern Styria and Hungary until it flows into the Danube at Györ. A few kilometres after Passail, the Raab forms Austria's longest gorge for 12 kilometres, part of which is a protected Natura2000 area and also a popular destination for hikers.
The trail leads in a large arc to the Raabursprung and back down to the Waldmühle rest stop, which is located at the end of the valley in the north of Passail. This family hiking trail leads past several steeply situated mountain farms, and along the way the story of "Pozilo", the deer and the little droplet "Sprungingerl" is told. The "Waldmühle" snack station, at the starting point of the tour, is only open at weekends; there are other places to stop in Passail.
