From the “Old Smithy” to the stone castle
The hike to the Steinschloss ruins offers an extensive view of the Murtal.
The ruins were made accessible again by the castle association and the well-preserved castle complex can therefore be visited safely. The stone castle is also the highest ruin in Styria.

More information
Coming from Judenburg via Unzmarkt to Scheifling. Keep going straight here until you get to Neumarkt. Keep right and drive to Diemersdorf.
Coming from Tamsweg, drive via Ranten (or Stadl an der Mur) to Murau. Keep right here and drive via Laßnitz and St. Lambrecht to Diemsersdorf.
You start at the holiday home, along a short stretch of path you go uphill to Berg. When you reach the farms, there are signs pointing to the Jocher. A forest path always uphill, but very idyllic, leads from Jocher to Hocheggerhütte. After a short break at the serviced Hocheggerhütte, follow the signpost to the Steinschloss ruins. Keeping to the right for a short stretch, the path leads to the entrance to the ruins. The castle courtyards and access to the core castle can be reached safely. A level forest path leads to the managed stone castle hut. The path leads back through flowering meadows to Rotmeier, along the Höhenstraße to the Schauer and Veidlofner farms. You have a wonderful view of the parish church of Mariahof and a sign leads to Hoferdorf and at the fork in the road left back to Diemersdorf.
