We follow the grey signs ‘WirteWanderWeg Almwirt’. We start at the Almwirt snack station and cross the main road after a few metres and follow the asphalt road, where we soon turn left onto the sandy road. We walk along the Stanzbach stream and continue over the bridge. The sandy road leads slightly uphill into the forest, where a path soon branches off to the left. Once again we follow the Stanzbach stream for a while. We follow the signposts and continue along the edge of the meadow until we come to a dirt track that leads us to the main road, which we cross. Signposts show us the way and we walk uphill along the tarmac road. After a short walk, we cross a small bridge where we find a fountain on the right-hand side that supplies us with fresh spring water. Continue along the tarmac road until the last section of the tarmac road begins after a sharp left-hand bend. We reach a crossroads with many signposts, our route leads us straight ahead onto a stretch of road with a marvellous view of the Unteralm valley. Very well-kept farmhouses, lovingly decorated with flowers in summer, line our path. We follow the tarmac road until it ends at a farm. We walk through the farmyard to pass through the gate on the mountain side, where a forest road begins. After turning left twice on the forest road, we reach the highest point of our hike. A path now leads us downhill. We walk along a ridge where the forest thins out and offers a marvellous view of the farms surrounded by lush meadows and the mountains all around. We can also see the lower valley again and the valley leading into Brandstatt. The path turns into a hollow path that leads down into the valley. This divides after a short while, we follow the left-hand path and soon come to a wider forest path, where we keep left again. We can already see a sculpture of the ‘Stanzer Sonnenweg’ in a spacious square. From here, part of the ‘Stanzer Sonnenweg’ and the ‘WirteWanderWeg Almwirt’ run along the same path. The signpost to the Almwirt snack station, which we will soon reach, makes us quicken our pace. A final, somewhat steeper section downhill through the forest follows and we reach a nice rest area in the forest, which invites us to take a break and help ourselves from the well-stocked ‘ground bar’ (a pit with a wooden lid containing bottles of drink). After refreshments, we return downhill along the road, which we can already see from here, back to the starting point of our hike.
