Great Herzogberg circuit

An enjoyable, easy and panoramic circular hike high above the Mürztal valley.
It goes around the wooded Herzogberg, along forest paths, forest tracks, alpine paths and short stretches of road. Two catered mountain huts (Kochhütte on Sat. and Sun., Töllamoaralm only on Sun., but also in winter) and the legendary Schwammerlwirt provide culinary rest stops. Scenic passages alternate with cool forest paths, always without difficulty and easily manageable even for less experienced hikers. Also ideal for family hiking days.

More information

From Kindberg at the outdoor pool into the Möstlinggraben and through this (asphalted mountain road, watch out for cyclists!) to the Almgasthof Pölzl or to the nearby hikers' car park.
At Almgasthof Pölzl (access via Möstlinggraben from Kindberg), follow the road for a few hundred metres (drive through a farmstead, drive slowly!) and park on the left-hand side where the road begins to descend again.
At the bend, the path begins on the right (signpost) and leads through a wood to a forest track. Follow this (signposted junction, wooden sign Kochhütte) and soon below a large PV plant to the Trippl farmstead (please observe any pasture fences and barriers!).

Now keep right along the forest path to the Kochhütte hut located slightly above the path and from there in a few minutes downhill to the Ochsenhimmelkreuz cross located below the path.
Now return a few metres and follow the forest path that leads around the ridge, keeping to the left. Continue along this path, now with beautiful views of the wooded mountains in the Pogusch - Bründlweg area, for around 30 -40 minutes uphill to the Töllamoaralm.
There, above the striking pilgrim's cross, follow a track slightly to the left uphill (do not follow the red-white-red markings) and along it to the junction (on the right) of a path (approx. 10 - 15 minutes' walk from the Töllamoaralm). Here, in a few minutes, a somewhat steeper ascent to the inconspicuous summit of the Töllamoarkogel (summit book).

From here, the trail descends, now marked throughout, to the Maurerkreuz (from here you can easily climb the Troiseck in around 30 minutes). Keeping to the right, we hike, with a wonderful view of the Fischbach Alps, first along a forest path and then downhill via forest paths to the former ski slope of the Pölzl lifts (alpine hut, former mountain station of the drag lift) and from there either directly to the Almgasthof Pölzl, which is already visible, or, keeping slightly to the right and along the road, back to the car park / starting point.
Kindberg town centre with the striking guild tree, the Georgiberg church and the Kindberg Calvary
The tour is unfortunately not accessible by public transport, ascent via the so-called ‘Herzerlfresserweg’ from Kindberg to the Almgasthof Pölzl in about 1 1/2 hours.
You can park at the Almgasthof Pölzl or at the starting point described above.
