We begin our hike at the train station in Langenwang and walk into the town center. Passing by the municipal office, the first stage follows Trail 735 to the Hohenwang Castle ruins. From Hochschloss, we hike uphill, partly along a hollowed-out path, until we reach a small saddle. Passing an old wayside shrine, we turn right onto a forest road, follow it for a while, and then branch off left onto an old forest trail. It's a long but not strenuous path that leads us quickly along the valley of the 'Langen Illach' on the slopes of the Sulzkogel.
At Brunnsteig, we cross a mountain ridge and face the next valley (Traibachgraben) – from here, we have a direct view into the forest homeland. A short downhill section takes us across a meadow to an ancient, remote farmhouse and a hunting lodge. We continue along the access road downhill into the Traibachgraben. The trail follows the left side of the stream, though you can also take the road to the Alpine farm's snack station. From here, continuing along Trail 735, we rejoin our original path at the Hauereckhütte.
After a few meters, we reach a large trail junction, where we turn left to follow the long-distance hiking trail. Passing the Rattner Alm and Steinriegel, we arrive at the Pretul Alm (those interested can stop at the Roseggerhaus). Our tour then takes us from the Pretul further to the Amundsenhöhe and the Ganzalm. From the Ganzalm, the trail passes the 'Schaller Bründl' and descends gently through the forest toward the Bärenkogel.
From the Bärenkogel, an asphalted road leads us toward Mürzzuschlag.
