Ah - so wonderful! The Hochschwab Alpine region invites you to hike, relax and enjoy culture. At the heart of it: Aflenz, a (health) resort with a rich history that can be felt in every corner.
The most important historical figure of Aflenz is probably St. Peter as church and local patron. That is why its important attribute - the Peter key - adorns the Aflenz market coat of arms. The abbot's staff with the velum (liturgical shawl) reveals that for centuries the board of directors of the Benedictine convent of St. Lambrecht was in charge of the place. The historical coat of arms has been expanded to include a detail in the recent past. A stylized apple tree has moved to the center and refers to the Slavic roots of the Aflenz Valley. Its settlement name Auelniz (first documented in 1025) is linguistically derived from the Slavic word ablanica and means apple tree or apple tree garden.
