Snowshoe hike to Amundsenhöhe

Mürzzuschlag

The Semmering-Waldheimat-Veitsch region is one hour away from Vienna and Graz. There are small and fine lifts and trails here as well as challenging downhill runs and tours for the sporty.

The trail climbs moderately from the Bärenkogelsattel via the Ganzalm to the Amundsenhöhe at an altitude of 1,666 metres. The panorama stretches from the nearby Semmering to the distant Dachstein, so that the view almost takes your breath away. Along the trail, wind turbines dominate the landscape, as the Pretul wind farm is located here. A leisurely break is recommended at the Peter Bergner-Warte: when the sky is clear, you can see as far as neighbouring Burgenland. The hike then leads to the nearby Roseggerhaus and then back to the Ganzalmhaus at 1,381 metres, on the south-western slope of the Pretulalpe. You can find all the information about the tour here. If you don't want to leave anything up to chance, book a guided snowshoe hike! With a mountain hiking guide, you roam the romantic, glittering winter landscape on snowshoes.

Bruno and Anita Mayhen's house is the best place to stop for culinary delicacies. Here in the Ganzalmhaus, warming soups are served and plentiful. The two innkeepers have always been known for their Wiener Schnitzel and Käsespätzle. To round off the meal, it is best to order a homemade, warm curd strudel.

Winter-fresh tip: In winter, you can borrow toboggans at the hut and speed three kilometres towards the valley. Alternatively, guests can spend the night either in the rustic mattress dormitory or in cosy double rooms. This way, the winter fun can continue in a relaxed way the next morning.
