The Aflenz earth station is the only ground satellite system in Austria and was put into operation on May 30, 1980.
The building designed by Gustav Peichl is embedded almost invisibly in the landscape and offers space for the most modern high-tech equipment for extremely fast data transmission on an area of more than 650 m². It is considered to be one of the most successful architectural solutions in Austria and has been awarded the State of Styria Prize for Architecture and the Geramb Bauzeichen for good building.
