Die Minoritenkirche

Bruck an der Mur

Baroqueized Gothic building from the 13th century

The Minoritenkirche is prominently located at the end of the pedestrian zone in Mittergasse. Externally simple, fully in the spirit of the Order of Friars Minor, the church houses remarkable frescoes of high artistic quality from around 1400.

On the northern wall of the nave, remnants of an originally 20-meter-long strip of images can be found, depicting the meeting, journey, and adoration of the Three Wise Men. On the southern side of the nave, a large field of images featuring St. Achatius and his martyrdom can be discovered.

In the center of the monumental altar stands the Madonna, dating from around 1480, above which is God the Father in the predella, flanked by male saints of the order.
Another treasure is the altarpiece featuring St. Anthony of Padua by Hans Adam Weißenkircher from around 1690.

The Minoritenkirche serves as the starting point of the Literary Path to the Bruck Castle Hill, and events are held regularly.
