At the Massenburg ruins enjoy a fantastic view of Leoben through the lookout.
The path from the Jakobikirche leads over the Dirnböckweg and Massenbergstraße in just a few minutes through the historic gateway directly into the courtyard of the Massenburg ruins.
To this day, the impressive gateway and distinct wall remnants have been preserved. An observation tower offers a wonderful view over Leoben and the surrounding mountainous landscape.
The name "Massenburg" is first documented in the 12th century. Around the mid-16th century, the complex was significantly expanded. In 1820, the majority of the castle was demolished, leaving only the grain storage building and some walls. In 1998/1999, the remaining parts were excavated and extensively renovated. Additionally, the Massenburg is a popular starting point for numerous hikes.
