Heimat- und Ständemuseum Tragöß

Tragöß - Sankt Katharein

When visiting the "Grüner See", you should not miss a visit to the Heimat- und Ständemuseum in Tragöß.

As the name of the museum already suggests, the focus of this collection is on the systematic representation of the estates. i.e. the farmers, and the craftsmen in Tragöß. The small building belonging to the Gasthof zur Post in the center of the village was established as a museum in 1990.

The ground floor shows models of the Calvary Chapel and the church in Pichl as well as the life, living and work of the farmers up to the early 20th century. The good room and the smokehouse look as if they had just been abandoned. In 2000, the previously unused bedchamber was also furnished as a showroom.

The upper floor, which is accessible from the outside, shows a clearly structured cross-section of the crafts and trades of the Tragöss Valley. The work situations of the farmers, shoemakers, tailors, binders, carpenters, blacksmiths and crushers are recreated in a largely lively manner. There are also insights into forestry and hunting, which are important in this part of the valley. A woodcutter's hut has also been recreated in a small space and the woodcutter's tools are also on display.

The mill wheel in the entrance area is a witness of the rich mill landscape here in the ditch. Unfortunately, not a single one of these mills is preserved. However, there is a reconstructed mill at a private fish farm, which can be visited on request.
